Chief Reid is proud to serve as the Fire Chief of Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VF&RS), GM of the Vancouver Office of Emergency Management, and as a member of the City of Vancouver Corporate Management Team. In these roles, Darrell works with progressive leaders and public safety and emergency management teams that set the bar for their professions.

Darrell’s past public safety leadership experience includes Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and Union President for one of North America’s most progressive services, Strathcona County Emergency Services in Alberta, Canada. He was also a Deputy Fire Chief for Toronto Fire Services, Canada’s largest and most complex fire and rescue organization. Chief Reid has specific expertise in operations, special operations, major incident command, technology, communications, EMS, analytics, and accreditation.

Chief Reid’s career highlights include being Incident Commander for the 2011 Slave Lake fires and the 2013 High River floods, two of the largest disasters in Canadian history.

Darrell served as the CEO for the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) of Ontario, the largest component of one of Canada’s largest health charities. He is currently a Director on the Provincial Advisory Board for HSF British Columbia. He previously founded the Society for Assistance to International Firefighters (SAIF) supporting first responders in Nicaragua and Guatemala.

Darrell has an MBA from the University of Alberta, an Executive Fire Officer Designation from the US National Fire Academy, a Community Preparedness & Disaster Management Certificate from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a Canadian Safety and Security Certificate from Canadian Forces College.

Darrell is a successful entrepreneur, founding Emergency Services Academy, an accredited college for firefighters and paramedics.
